All last week, the folks at Diary of a Crossword Fiend gave out their annual Orcas awards to celebrate the best in crossword puzzling. Best Easy Puzzle, Best Clue, that sort of thing. Well, I might not have won the Best Puzzle of the year, that went to my man Francis Heaney, but lookee here, the ole’ Biz Quig walked away with the Miss Congeniality Crossword Constructor of the Year award. I am honored. I guess this is it though, the pinnacle, and the only way left is down. I’ve peaked right now and shall be forever doomed to a life of coasting on former successes. Thank you all, it’s been a great ride. (No not really. I’m qualified to do nothing else in life, so expect more puzzles from me until I drop dead.)
Quick list of folks to thank: my girls Liz and Tabby, Amy Reynaldo, Nancy Schuster, Tyler Hinman, Eric Maddy, Francis, Frank Longo, Patrick Berry, and each and every one of you who come to the site and do a puzzle. I couldn’t do it without you.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Mazal tov! Well deserved.
Congrats Brendan… certainly well deserved!
I predict that there will be more and more awards in BEQ’s future — there are the ORzOs and the OREOs and the ORSOs the ETNAs and the ETONs.
I just learned that my 27 across is “2.” Cool.
Congratulations on the recognition, you certainly set the bar high. You will need future schooling on the SEC. 30D a powerhouse? Snork.
Nice work, Brendan. Your work has been my consistent favorite this year, so I’m not surprised to see you win it.
That was a GREAT puzzle! Best I’ve done in a long, long time. Thanks!
Congrats,
