Remember that post I wrote about how I scrambled to come up with a puzzle #5 for the ACPT under the gun? Yeah, that one. Good times. Anyway, in the write-up, I groused about “an axis-shifting theme” I’d proposed wasn’t deemed ACPT-worthy enough by Will Shortz. Well, said puzzle finally found a home in my latest AV crossword. Glad this one was able to see the light of day. And oh yeah, the theme’s got a very subtle component to it that makes it even more impressive if I may say so myself. No more spoilers. Go do it after today’s offering.
Share the puzzles. New one on Monday.
That was as much fun as I have had with a puzzle in a long time! I could feel my brain working!! Thank you. More, please.
22D seemed particularly apt somehow.
So, 20A and 22D both come out to be the same word, even though one is missing a letter which would technically turn it into a different word – is this still valid?
I’m torn over this one. It was very clever and very hard until I saw the light and then the bottom half fell very quickly, but I guess I’m in the camp that doesn’t particularly like it the look of that sort of finished grid (trying not to give away too much).
Bravo!! This shoulda’ been in the NYT so more people could enjoy it.
I was not aware that we should avoid spoilers in the comments. Presumable people don’t come to the blog until after they have done the puzzle. Am I wrong?
‘Rilliant! ‘Ravo! ‘Ring ’em on! Seriously, a fabulous puzzle, fun, challenging, satisfying and an amazing tour de force!
