Couple two three links for you folks. Let’s get to ’em.
Last Thursday, I participated in an ACPT roundtable alongside WSJ’s language maven Ben Zimmer and A-solver and perennial good guy Ken Stern, ably hosted by Ben Bass. Three. Whole. Hours of nothing but talk about ACPTs. Past, present, future. You name it. Insanity! Needless to say, there’s loadsa spoilers if you haven’t done the puzzles, then maybe hold off on it. Otherwise, enjoy. I watched a bit of it and boy do I need to get myself a microphone. And take diction classes. Otherwise, I sound great. Yeah, three whole hours! Get on it.
Next up, speed solving megalegend Dan Feyer and his merry gang of pranksters over at the Browser have an anthology out right now. I have raved about these puzzles before, and perhaps you have signed up for a subscription. But if you haven’t and you’re looking to stock up on some puzzle books, you could do a whole lot worse than picking up a copy.
Lastly, the Boston Typewriter Orchestra was honored to put together an audio installation for an art gallery in Newark earlier this year. Visitors listened to the piece in a retrofitted elevator. We decided to run with that idea and make the piece the elevator ride to various floors of the office where the BTO supposedly works. It’s a combination of old material, interstitial bits, and works in progress, all tied together with my wife Liz doing the floor announcements. We were really pleased with how it came out. You can listen to it here.
Looking for more puzzles? The Hub Crossword (Sunday puzzles by me and Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon, and soon Joon) and Marching Bands year seven have begun. So if that To Do list needs even more puzzles, you know what to do.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Reason 23 why crossword contests are beyond my capacity: I fully expected Willa Cather thought she “shall die of having liver.”
Lovely puzzle, Brendan o’ mine…and super clues!
One tiny thing…I think the Metallic is “Wherever I May Roam.”
Thank you so much!
I think it’s safe to say that the best 10% of crossword puzzle construction and cluing has been going on in recent years. Plus I heard that the crossword magazines sold at WalMart are the Grandmotherly type. Then apparently Barnes & Noble sell the MILF version. As for this above puzzle,it’s very easy but still challenging.
Kelly, here’s a poser for you: if your husband’s name were Ross, I’m sure you’d give him a lot of space. How so?
