MAKE IT A DOUBLE: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Well, we made it to the end of another year of Biz Quig puzzles. Here’s hoping that you and yours have a great ’22. My goal for ’21 was to solve (correctly) every one of the the batshit hard weekly UK cryptic known as The Listener. I managed to enter 26 of that insanity and then I flamed out. I think it was a fine project when you didn’t have so much to do and could dedicate time (hours!) on it week in, week out. But this summer there was a lot going on, and well, there’s only so many hours of the day. Hey, I did look at most of them, however, and still entered maybe half of the remainder of the year. So, you know: Not Terrible. But in terms of achieving the goal, big swing and a miss.
My goal for ’22: sell ten cryptic puzzles. I made one for the AV last month, so, I’m ready for stepping things up. Watch this space.
This is the last time I’m going to say the thing about the drive. Here’s the drill: the puzzles on this site are free and shall remain free until the heat death of the universe. My whole life is dedicated to the entertainment of you, you, and you. All I ask if that you are financially able, please consider a small tip of $15 to keep the site chugging along. Everyone who tips gets two bonus 21xs, a themed and a themeless, as a thank you. PayPal or Venmo (@TheBEQ) preferred. But I take everything, including crypto, just email me Long for appeal is here.
Also, let me know if you have tipped but haven’t got your puzzles yet.
On Monday, I’ll pick one random name out of the hat and give said donor a subscription to the indie puzzle of their choosing.
Still looking for more puzzles? The Hub Crossword (Sunday puzzles by me and Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon) and Marching Bands year seven have begun. So if that To Do list needs even more puzzles, you know what to do.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Is 5D right? I think it is SSE from Dallas to Houston?
There are a couple of problems in the Across Lite version:
1) The clue for 31A doesn’t render correctly. It reads:
Org. with a “100 Years
2) The “special character” is not accepted. After trying it as a rebus, which was rejected, I tried it as the corresponding character and that was *also* rejected. When I performed a Current Letter Reveal on the square it came up with the same single character I had typed but typing that character myself comes up as an error. Very strange!
What Glinda said on both counts.
1) The clue should probably end with …”
2) I did the same thing!
Still enjoyed the puzzle…thanks Brendan and Happy New Year!
Happy New Year and great thanks for your fun, quality weekly puzzles.
Well I was pleased that I had the puzzle figured out, but confused that all my rebus entries were wrong. After checking here I tried typing in the special character and it worked! Thanks for the suggestion. (Also the clue in question. Had been fixed by the time I got to the puzzle today.)
Happy New Year everybody, and thanks for all the puzzles!
That was two good.
I downloaded the Across Lite version of the puzzle again thinking it was fixed, but it is not. Perhaps it renders differently in the Mac vs the PC version of Across Lite. I have a Mac.
If that’s not an “easy” then I don’t know what is. Thanks for a fun year, BEQ!
Same here–wouldn’t take the rebus or the special character in .puz (Mac, tho it shouldn’t matter for jscript)). So I just hit “reveal” and counted it in my Win column. Other than that, clever and just challenging enough for fun. Thanks BEQ
Great puzzle. Thanks
