RELAY RACE: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Puzzle is running a teensy bit late today, and for that I humbly apologize. I thought today was Wednesday. I could have used somebody passing me a baton, telling me it was time to get things going. But alas. Here we are. Enjoy.
Looking for more puzzles? The Hub Crossword (Sunday puzzles by me and Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon) and Marching Bands year seven have begun. So if that To Do list needs even more puzzles, you know what to do.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
I think there is a typo in the clue at 36 D (should be singular?). And the AL version has an error in the solution where 12D meets 18A. But I love the puzzle anyway.
Yes, I noticed that too, the 36D clue. Should be singular.
The 12D/18A answers both end in a rebus.
I don’t understand 59A UMNO. Thought it was text speak but couldn’t find a reference.
“um … no”
Sorry … I should have been more articulate:
“Talk to the hand” and “Um … no” are both ways of dismissing what someone has just said.
25D: having read this decades ago, in English it’d be The Plague. M. Camus was commenting on the absurdity of the plague wreaking havoc in Oran, Algeria. It had occurred to me about 18 months back that M. Camus would have had a ball with the COVID.
I don’t remember ever seeing an Across Lite puzzle where you had to enter the rebus to be correct before. So I just tried various single characters, until I ‘checked answers’ and saw it was the only wrong square. Then I had to find the rebus menu item (never use it!) and put it in to get the Happy Pencil.
9 down checks out. Bit of a spoiler here. I actually recognized it as the frequency of letters in order for English text. I know it from memory as ETAISONHRDLUCMFWYGPVBKJQXZ (which is slightly different from the clue and answer) Google it and there is an interesting story in Wikipedia.
