The 6 across definition is wrong. The Latin expression is “nec plus ultra”. Typo perhaps?
Every source I can find says “ne plus ultra,” not “nec.”
Since this is a year ending in nine….. Having solved SUDOKU for 4 decades even if there’s a long gap there. It debuted in one of the Dell CP Magazines as NUMBER PLACE on the verso, #ed 14. If you vvere experienced in solving the LOGIC PROBLEMS (that i knovv the lavvyers and lavv students can relate to), this vvas a cinch. Also vvanting to refer to the crossvvords in the Japanese translation from novv on. Anyone knovv that vvord. Anyvvay puzzle #1160 much more easier than usual.

“much more easier?????”
I solved this but I don’t understand the theme at all. “Jeopardy champ”? “Beyond the pale”? What is the connection?
I have the same question. What do they have to do with HUSH MONEY?
