UNDER CARDS: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]

One of the challenges of puzzlemaking is coming up with another title when you’ve already got the perfect title … as an answer in the puzzle. I guess this is why the Times doesn’t title any of their six daily puzzles. Good luck coming up with titles for the weekend themeless puzzles. I tried that for a while, but it didn’t take too long before I adopted the “Themeless Monday” moniker. Much easier that way. Anyway, I digress. So yeah, I wanted to title my puzzles, and I can’t call any of them “Untitled” unless there was a reason for titling it that. So, it can be tricky when you’ve already used your best idea. It must be evocative of what’s going on, and preferably doesn’t just give away the game (though I have done that before, plenty of times). Hopefully this one works, but if you can come up with a better title, leave it in the comments.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.

Didn’t see what was going on until 38A. Still took a while after that. Lives up to what a “Hard” puzzle should be. Good one.
Another pleasurable solve. Only title suggestions I can think of would give too much away.
Nice that the ID in 38A is dead center. Another pleasurable solve!
I guessed the Italian futbol league correctly, but I still can’t match the clue for 49A to the answer. It is right, but mystifying.
7 across clue – Does nothing
Answer – les
I’ve searched every on line dictionary (even slang dictionaries) and find absolutely no definition of the word les that even remotely fits the clue Does Nothing.
Stoopid me …. I neglected the theme. Was really thrown at first. GREAT puzzle
I’m thinking rain, as in teeming — akin to pouring.
I, for one, could have used a bit of giving away. Had a lot filled in but was completely baffled in those six areas until the penny dropped with ID-AHOANS. Definitely hard. Not a Black Sabbath fan and no idea that IDA LUPINO directed as well as acted, so what might have been a big tip off for some was a complete mystery to me. Loved the puzzle.
It’s Freud’s 160th birthday, so as an alternate title, how about “Subconcious”? As in hidden “I’d.”
Id. Darn you autocorrect.
I like Ken’s name better than Under Cards! It’s a good one and gives nothing away. But I also agree with Norm that it could’ve used some giving away – this was a really hard one. How about “You said?” As in “Use a id?” It might take a while since it’s incorrect English, but hey… I am still wondering what “Under Cards” is. What is it? Oh Google says it’s to do with boxing. Ugh… I like mine better. Great puzzle by the way. Loved it even if I did need much more help than usual from the ‘reveal’ tool.
Thanks, I can see that. We had some rain here last week like that – can’t even see across the yard.
Got the gimick pretty early on, but had to put it down when I just could not make sense of 45D (and couldn’t get help from 49A). I went back 24 hours later, and finally had to reveal the solution to get it. BEST CLUE FOR ETA EVER!!! Well done!
