THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]

I’d just like the record to show that I wrote the clues while listening to the above album. Let me tell you, that was an experience. Shout out to my friend Rich who always pushes me toward the avant garde sometimes nearly-unlistenable jazz records. Appreciate it, pal. So anyway, what I’m trying to get at is, if this one seems a bit more ornery than usual, blame ‘Trane.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
38A. Lol.
Thinking of Coltrane this weekend with the death of pianist McCoy Tyner, who can be heard on this album.
Wow Brendan, one of your best yet — a tour de force! Great fill, long-but-good word size, fun clues. Ya can’t go wrong listening to Coltrane and Tyner. Together they developed a fresh phase of jazz history, which is still playing out.
I dunno, I was totally flummoxed by the southwest corner. I got a wrong-but-equally-plausible answer for 37A and had no idea what the hell the four place-names (five, kinda, if you count 27D) were supposed to be.
17 Across was fun though.
Probably my favorite clue this puzzle, especially since I got it with no crosses.
