Really? That’s like a go-to, first saw it like a buncha pencil nubs ago… Well I am old so..
German potato salad does not generally contain that ingredient, although there are regional variants that do. Regular potato salad usually contains that ingredient if it’s any good.
It does play nicely with warm acid and the other flavors if used gently, I think. And in regular potato salad is essential oh yes it is ;-))
